This card came from Louise Rossler.

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup flour*
  • 1 rack ribs* ((beef or pork))
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2/3 cup vinegar
  • 2 Tbsp soy sauce
  • 2 1/2 cups water
  • 4 tsp cornstarch

Method

  1. Dredge the ribs in the flour and brown (in a the roasting pan with a bit of oil on the stovetop?**)
  2. In a saucepan, mix brown sugar, vinegar and water together over medium-high heat and bring just to a boil.
  3. Mix together soy sauce and cornstarch and add this slurry mixture to the saucepan, stirring well.
  4. Continue stirring over medium heat until mixture thickens, about 5 minutes.
  5. Pour over ribs in roaster and cook at 350°F for about 2-2 1/2 hours until ribs are cooked and tender.

Recipe Notes

*The amount of ribs is not stated on the card. Let's go with one rack. There was also no amount of flour specified. It simply states, "Roll ribs in flour and brown." Not sure if I'm missing a second card that goes with this one or if it's just another case of IYKYK cooking.

**I just assumed the instructions meant dredge the ribs in the flour and brown them on the stove top. I've actually never cooked ribs this way in my life, but I'm willing to give it a shot. I'm thinking they obviously have to be defrosted to do it this way.

I'd like to try out this sauce with my own ribs in the future, which I simmer in spiced water for 2-4 hours and then bake or finish them off on the bbq.
