Jalapeno Croutons
There was no title on the card so I took the liberty of giving it a name.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 cups grated cheese*
- 1/2 cup butter or margarine ((softened))
- 1/2 tsp** dry mustard
- 1 egg
- 1/4 tsp onion powder or onion salt
- 1 can jalapeno peppers***
- 5 slices bread
Method
- Put cheese, butter or margarine, mustard powder, egg and onion powder in blender and mix well for 30 seconds.
- Remove from blender and add jalapenos. Mix well.
- Spread mixture over 5-6 slices of bread.
- Cut crusts off bread and cut slices of bread into cubes.
- Spread cubes over a baking sheet and cover top and sides.
- Bake in a 350°F oven until cheese is melted and slightly browned.
- Remove cover in last 5 minutes to brown if needed.
Recipe Notes
*type of cheese was not specified, but I'd use cheddar, marble or jack-cheddar.
**mustard powder, I'm guessing.
*** no size can specified but the average seems to be between 300-400 gram cans. I would personally probably opt for fresh jalapenos or frozen but that's because I'm not a fan of pickled jalapenos.
I find the addition of egg in this recipe to be odd. I'm guessing it is to help the cheese and spices stick to the bread a bit more.
Card says "can be frozen"--I assume after they're cooked.
