A tasty, filling and hearty meal. Leftovers freeze well and could be used as spaghetti sauce if you're rolling over recipes.

Ingredients

  • 6-8 ea buns (hamburger or dinner/kaiser style)
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 medium onion
  • 1 large red pepper
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 can diced tomatoes (with juice)
  • 1 small can tomato paste
  • 4-6 cloves garlic (minced)
  • DRIED SPICES AND SEASONINGS

  • 1/2 teaspoon basil
  • 1 tablespoon onion flakes
  • 1/4 teaspoon savory
  • 1/4 teaspoon marjoram
  • 1/4 teaspoon thyme
  • TOPPING
  • 8 tablespoons cheese (Optional - grated (mozza or cheddar or other))

Method

  1. Brown ground beef over medium heat in olive oil. Drain excess grease after browning.
  2. Add chopped onion, red pepper, garlic cloves and continue cooking over medium-high heat for 5-10 minutes.
  3. Add canned tomatoes, canned tomato paste, vinegar, sugar, spices and molasses and stir well to combine.

Recipe Notes

Subsitute ground pork or bison for the beef if desired.
